Ferndale City Council to Consider Marijuana Legalization Petition

Council members will decide whether to adopt the ordinance alteration within 20 days or put it on the November ballot.

The Ferndale City Council will consider a petition to legalize marijuana during its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at City Hall.

Resident Andrew Cissell on July 30 submitted the petition to allow adults age 21 or older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana on private property within the city.

Ferndale City Clerk J. Cherilynn Brown said the council will decide whether to adopt the ordinance alteration as is within 20 days or put it on the Nov. 5 ballot, she said.

Voters in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Ypsilanti already have passed similar ordinances.
