Ferndale City Council Recall Petitions Withdrawn 3 Days after Filing

No word yet from resident responsible for petitions on why he called off his effort.

On Tuesday, Ferndale resident for four Ferndale City Council members. On Friday, he withdrew them.

The Oakland County Election Division said no reason is required and the language for withdrawing the petition is standard. It states: "I, Robert Sinclair, wish to withdraw the recall petitions for the Ferndale City Council."

Sinclair has not responded to calls seeking comment.

On Dec. 28, during the Financial Planning Committee's public presentation, Sinclair said he would not support its recommendation for a Headlee Override and if anyone on council voted to put it on a May election ballot, he would have them recalled. "If a millage increase comes forth I will personally fund a recall campaign against anyone on council who votes for it," he told the committee.

Sinclair filed recall petitions for council members Melanie Piana, Scott Galloway, Mike Lennon and Mayor Pro Tem Kate Baker.

"This whole thing just strikes me as kind of odd," Galloway said.

"All (the paperwork) cites (for the recall) is 'financial mismanagement,'" Oakland County Director of Elections Joe Rozell said Thursday.
