Ferndale Area Events Today to Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Residents can remember King at Ferndale-area events offered on MLK Day.

In case you missed the , check out one of these area events to celebrate and honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy.

Royal Oak Township Event: "Out of the Mountain of Despair, a Stone of Hope!"

  • When: 1 p.m. Monday
  • Where: Royal Oak Township Recreation Center, 21272 Mendota Ave.
  • Why: This annual event will feature keynote speaker Pastor Ezra Tillman.
  • Cost: Free
  • When: 2 to 4:30 p.m. Monday
  • Where:Why: Honor MLK with your own rendition of  “I Have a Dream,” an original artwork done by Wendy Fournier specifically for this MLK event. Also featured will be two local authors, Sandra Epps and Marlin Page, discussing their new books on motivating children and young adults, as well as complimentary handmade snacks from local business, Pop Pop Pop.

  • Where: 315 E Warren Ave., Detroit
  • Why: 12th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Breakfast sets the stage for full day of events honoring King and his legacy on the Wright Museum's most popular day of the year.
  • Cost: $35
  • What else: The day's activities include activities, screenings, workshops and performances. All day long guests can meet characters of the Civil Rights Movement, see the Table of Brotherhood and a scale model of the Washington, DC, Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.
