Dan Martin Looks Forward to First Ferndale City Council Meeting Tonight

Newcomer and re-elected Dave Coulter and Mike Lennon will be sworn in Monday.

It’s been two months since was elected to the Ferndale City Council, and Martin says he’s ready to officially take his seat Monday.

“I'm really excited, and I’m looking forward to getting to work,” said Martin, who was elected Nov. 8 for his first term on council. “I’ve been anxiously awaiting my first meeting, so the fact that it’s coming around is a good feeling.”

Martin . retained his seat on council and is beginning his third four-year term, while  with nearly 85 percent of the votes.

Martin and the re-elected members will be sworn in at the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Ferndale City Clerk Cherilynn Tallman said Ferndale Cub Scout Pack 1245 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance for the inaugural meeting, and Judge Joseph Longo and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan will swear in Martin, Lennon and Coulter.

Martin, originally from Bay City, has lived in Ferndale since 2004. He has served as chairman of the since 2007.

Martin told Ferndale Patch after the election that in his first year on the council, he hopes to continue to practice and maintain fiscal responsibility, work toward a parking structure and continue to maintain Ferndale's vibrant downtown.

Martin said he already has a good working relationship with members of the council, so he’s confident he’ll be able to “hit the ground running.”

“There's a lot to do, and I’m just looking forward to rolling my sleeves up and getting into it,” he said.
