City Council Preview: Liquor License Renewals, Woodward Plans and More

Ferndale officials will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

When the Ferndale City Council meets tonight, it will consider liquor license renewals, plans for the Woodward corridor and more. Here’s an overview of topics coming up at the meeting:

  • Liquor license renewals: First up will be a public hearing on the consideration of objecting to Class C Liquor License renewals for five Ferndale bars with delinquent accounts. , , , and S & J Post have outstanding charges assessed by the city, ranging from Dino’s $115 dues to Eden’s charges of just more than $23,000. The Post Bar closed last year after City Council brought up its outstanding balance of more than $12,300 in taxes during a March meeting. The location on Woodward has since been .
  • Public safety: The Ferndale Police Department is proposing repealing a city ordinance that requires firearms and dangerous weapons to be destroyed or stored as well as approval for Lt. Casey O’Loughlin to attend the FBI National Academy’s 2012 Summer Session and the approval to erect a stop sign at Allen and West Troy roads.
  • Energy assessments: The second phase of the BetterBuildings for Michigan program by the Southeastern Michigan Regional Energy Office, which allows all city property owners to participate in a complete home energy assessment and receive incentives and financing for energy-saving home upgrades.
  • Regional planning: Millennial Mayors Congress’ Millennial Vision for Metro Detroit resolution to coordinate development and investment according to the regional priorities.
  • Appreciation: Mayor Coulter will also present a resolution of appreciation for Ferndale business owner and longest-running board Chairman of the , Jerome Raska.
  • Woodward corridor: Council considers adopting the Woodward Avenue Transit-Oriented Development Corridor Study for South Oakland County and further directs staff to incorporate the study into the city’s Master Land Use.
