Woman, 38, Killed in Hit and Run on Eight Mile

A 38-year-old Detroit resident died after being hit by a car Friday evening. The driver left the scene.

A 38-year-old Detroit woman was killed Friday evening after a car hit her while she was crossing the road in the Eight Mile and Pinecrest area.

The driver of the car left the scene.

The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Friday, Lt. Detective William Wilson said in a statement.

"A woman walking southbound across Eight Mile between Pinecrest and Livernois was struck by a car," he said. "The driver of the striking vehicle left the scene. It appears the woman was crossing in front of traffic in a poorly lit area."

Wilson said Ferndale officers and firefighters administered first aid upon arriving to the scene and the fire department transported the victim to , where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Wilson said her identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

Ferndale Police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department are investigating, but Wilson said that the driver of the car was not at fault.

"It appears the driver of the vehicle was not at fault, but still fled the scene," he said. "This person who may have panicked should minimize the situation by contacting the Ferndale Police Department."
