The Ferndale Fire Department responded to a garage fire at a manufacturing processing plant in Oak Park on Tuesday evening.

No one was hurt in the blaze, he said. The estimated damage was not available.

The fire started on a garage roof, where a crew had been working on a repair at the time, Sullivan said.

Ferndale firefighters helped ensure everyone was OK and entered the building to make sure the fire hadn't spread.

Sullivan said the department will respond to any fire in a bordering town until the local department arrives.

"If we pull up on the border of any community - Hazel Park, Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak Township ... should we see a fire there we're going to engage it until their jurisdictional authority people are there," he said. "Our crew will attack the fire until their team is there and takes over."
