'Combat Fire' 95 Percent Contained

The fire has scorched some 450 acres, according to officials.

Last update: 11:20p.m. Wednesday

Crews fighting a 450-acre wildfire at Camp Pendleton had the burn area about 95 percent contained Wednesday morning.

The blaze, which has posed no threats to military or civilian structures, erupted on a large training ground in the southeastern reaches of the Marine Corps installation about 3 p.m. Monday.

One base firefighter suffered mild smoke inhalation and another sustained minor burns while battling the flames, Camp Pendleton spokesman Jeff Nyhart said. Both were treated at a hospital and released.

The blaze was no longer spreading as of 6 p.m., though it was still generating some plumes of light smoke, according to Nyhart.

The origin of the fire apparently was "training related," he said, adding that the exact cause remained under investigation.

What does any of this have to do with the story you all are commenting on?

Steve, I do support most of Ron Paul's ideas, I just don't appreciate your childish name calling. What I wrote is "rather borrow from China" the key word being rather. You were the one brought up the lost jobs that are being financed by borrowing to fund the war machine. If employment is the reason for doing so? I would rather have those jobs be doing something productive that benefits the American people, not just creating endless conflict and wars as the majority of our federal funding currently does.
