Saturday: Gunmen rob couple

About midnight Saturday, a 32-year-old Royal Oak man and a 24-year-old Pleasant Ridge woman left a Ferndale home on East Woodland and headed to their car. The two men fled the scene, going west on East Woodland toward Woodward Avenue, Wilson said. A police dog was brought in from Southfield to track the scene from the Woodward alley, south to East Maplehurst but ultimately the trail ended and the men escaped.

Tuesday: Teen robbed of phone

Around 6:48 p.m. Tuesday, Ferndale Police responded to a report of a larceny from a person. A 17-year-old male from Oak Park was waiting for the bus on the south side of West Nine Mile, at Woodward Avenue, near the alley. A young black male wearing all black clothing and glasses approached him, Wilson said.

The 17-year-old was asked if he knew what time the bus came by. "When the victim took his phone out of his pocket to look, the subject grabbed the phone from victim’s hand, along with a $20 bill that was in the same hand," Wilson said. The subject then took off southbound through the alley.

"(The) victim said he gave chase to the subject and chased him through the post office parking lot on (West) Troy and lost him after he jumped over a fence to Saratoga," Wilson said.

Wilson said the victim searched for the robber, then went back to the West Nine Mile bus stop where he called the Ferndale Police. Police have been unable to locate the suspect.

Thursday: Pair robbed near gas station

At 4:55 a.m. Thursday, Ferndale Police were dispatched to the Shell gas station at 1100 W. Eight Mile on a report that two people were just robbed nearby.

The victims who called and reported the armed robbery in Ferndale also claimed they were robbed nearly two hours prior by the same person, just across the street at the Valero gas station on Eight Mile and Livernois in Detroit. They filed a report on that incident with the Detroit police.

The two victims were Detroiters, one 34-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman.

The robber got away with "some money," Wilson said. The suspect was last seen running south on Stoepel from Eight Mile, armed with a handgun, Wilson said.

"Ferndale (Police) cars arrived within moments and established a perimeter; the suspect was not in sight upon arrival," he said. "Royal Oak PD sent a canine unit to try and track the suspect. The track failed shortly after traveling south on Stoepel."

Wilson said the suspect is described as being in his late teens to early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches, 150 pounds and clean shaven. The black hoodie he was wearing said "Southpole" in white letters across the chest. He was also wearing black jeans and black shoes.
