2 Men Arrested in Ferndale After Cell Phone Theft

Police said two men were arrested on Saturday night for allegedly stealing a cell phone from a woman at the McDonald's on Woodward.

Ferndale Police arrested two men around 9:30 p.m. Saturday for allegedly stealing a cell phone from a woman at the on Woodward.

According to a news release from Ferndale Police, the two suspects approached two women, engaged them in conversation and then one of the men asked one of the women - an 18-year-old woman from Pontiac - if he could use her cell phone to make a call.

She handed him her phone and then both men took off running, police said.

Police responded to the area and found the suspects walking on Woodward near Marshall. When an officer detained one of the men, the other man ran away, police said. Another police officer chased that man across Woodward and caught him in the median. Other officers assisted as the man fought with police, according to the report.

Both suspects - a 19-year-old Detroit resident and a 23-year-old Detroit resident - were arrested. Police said the case will be presented to the prosecutor’s office for a determination of charges.

According to the release, one of the suspects is wanted on a warrant out of Melvindale for "assault with intent to rob unarmed."
