Ferndale Pharmacy to Close After it's Hit by Thieves Twice in Days

Business burglarized early Wednesday morning, just two days after it was hit by armed robbers.

Less than , it was the victim of another crime.

Early Wednesday morning, the pharmacy was burglarized, a pharmacist who works there said and also confirmed by the Ferndale Police. The pharmacist requested his name to be withheld for privacy reasons.

"Again," the pharmacist said, shaking his head. "They broke in this morning."

After a long pause, with empty shelves behind him, the pharmacist said: "We've decided it's not worth it."

At 6:05 a.m., the pharmacist received a call from the Ferndale Police Department. "They asked if someone had a key because the alarm was going off," the pharmacist said.

The man added that the time on the police report of when the alarm was received was 5:55 a.m.

He said it appeared the burglars had tried to pry open the front door but couldn't get in, so they broke in through the back. "They cut the lock and kicked the door in," the pharmacist said. "They took everything that was left, cut the cable on the cash register and took that."

The shelves of the pharmacy that once held cold medicine, toiletries and small bags of chips, among other things, were completely bare. Nothing was left except Post-it notes on the tempered glass and two computers.

"We put everything in the truck and we're moving it to another location," the pharmacist said.

Ferndale Pharmacy has been open at 825 W. Nine Mile for 3 1/2 years. "We were here for almost four years, we were an established business," the pharmacist said.

The pharmacist said the owner has another pharmacy in Madison Heights but withheld the location for fear of another break-in. "We'll have to find something to keep the employees around," the pharmacist said.

The pharmacist said he'd continue to work at the Madison Heights location.

"Very bad, something like this," he said, solemnly. "Like this? No one is going to stay here, like this."
