Taking a Bite Out of Crime: Man Thwarts Crime with Teeth

An attempted armed robbery and carjacking took place Sunday morning in Ferndale when a man jumped into another man's car. After the two bit each other, the suspect fled.

A Detroit man thwarted a would-be-robber and carjacker early Sunday morning by biting him after the suspect jumped into his car in a bank parking lot, Ferndale Police Detective Lt. William Wilson said.

The 54-year-old Detroit man reported to the Ferndale Police that on Sunday, around 4 a.m., another man with a handgun jumped into his unlocked Chevy Camaro when he pulled into the parking lot of  on East Nine Mile Road to use the ATM.

The suspect demanded the victim's money and car, Wilson said, then had the victim drive down the street. At that point, the suspect struck the victim with his gun. The victim fought back by biting the suspect.

"During the fight, the victim bit the suspect on the right hand and the suspect bit the victim’s nose," Wilson said.

The suspect then fled, Wilson said, and the victim drove himself to the hospital and called Ferndale Police. The victim has been released from the hospital, Wilson said.

The suspect is described as a 27- to 29-year-old male, approximately 140-150 pounds, wearing a blue Polo baseball hat, gray T-shirt, blue jeans and black/white tennis shoes and a diamond stud type earring in his left ear.
