Report: Man Arrested After Ferndale Bicycle Road Rage Incident

An Oak Park man reportedly used a knife to make jabbing gestures at another bicyclist after a dispute, the Daily Tribune reports.

An Oak Park man was arrested Friday afternoon after a bicycling road rage incident in Ferndale, according to an article in the Daily Tribune.

According to the report, 69-year-old David R. Simmons, of Oak Park, pulled out a folding knife and made jabbing gestures at a man after a dispute while bicycling that occurred around Woodward and Nine Mile Road.

The victim - a 29-year-old resident of Ferndale - was not hurt, the Daily Tribune reports.

Simmons reportedly claimed that the Ferndale man had cut him off. Police told the Daily Tribune that Simmons then yelled an obscenity and the bicyclist rode off, but later caught up with Simmons on foot and confronted him about the name-calling.

Simmons was arraigned on Saturday in and will return to court on Thursday for a pre-exam conference, the Tribune reports. He is charged with felony assault with a knife and faces up to four years in prison, according to the article.
