Police: Ferndale Homeowner Shoots at Home Invader

The intruder fled in a stolen silver Ford Ranger with a red logo on the door that says "Oxbow," police said.

A Ferndale homeowner reportedly shot at a person trying to break into his home on Friday morning, according to Ferndale Police.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Friday, a homeowner on Edgewood Place near Eight Mile and Woodward discovered that his home was being attacked by an unknown person, Ferndale Police Lt. Gary Whiting wrote in a press release.

The homeowner fired his handgun at the suspect, who fled to a waiting stolen 1997 silver Ford Ranger pickup truck with a red logo on the door that says "Oxbow." The Michigan license plate number is CB89913.

The truck may have been struck by the bullets fired by the homeowner, police said. The vehicle was reported stolen in the city of Livonia and was used in another crime in the city of Troy on Oct. 18. Oxbow is the name of the company the truck was stolen from.

It is unknown whether the suspect was struck by the bullet, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ferndale police at 248-541-3650.

What happened to the police blotter column? I saw the one from the Royal Oak Patch today but haven't seen any from the Ferndale Patch in quite some time. I count on you to keep us in the know regarding criminal and police activity in our neighborhoods, but other than a few "highlighted" incidents it seems that nothing is being reported on anymore.

Sadly, I see Ferndale changing. The once quite city is being invaded with people running from Detroit and its surrounding area bring a different culture to Ferndale, Royal Oak and Birmingham, and Berkley. Businesses are opening up in the cities that do not meet the needs of the citizens. Pleasent Ridge has begun a Neighborhood Watch Program. I will say, Ferndale Police are the BEST!
