Police: Former Resident Drives Stolen Van Into House

Ferndale Police arrested a 28-year-old Detroit man on Monday who reportedly crashed a stolen van into his former residence on College Street.

Police arrested a former Ferndale resident on Monday who reportedly crashed a stolen van into his former home on College Street.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, Ferndale Police responded to the 1900 block of College Street where a Ford Econoline van had crashed into the house. The driver had gotten out of the vehicle, entered a waiting Lincoln and fled southbound on West End, according to a news release from Ferndale Police.

Officers almost immediately stopped the Lincoln on Eight Mile Road, and a passenger in the vehicle matched the description of the person who drove the van into the house.

The suspect - Domana J. Cato, 28, of Detroit - was arrested.

Further investigation showed that the van left at the home on College Street had been stolen out of Detroit, police said. Officers also discovered that Cato's driver’s license listed the College address as his place of residence.

"Cato had lived there with the current resident, and apparently Cato had some type of grudge with the resident," Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson wrote in the release.

Cato is currently jailed on charges of Malicious Destruction of Property and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and a bond of $10,000 has been set. Cato's license was suspended with prior convictions, police said.
