UPDATE: Hundreds of Ferndale DTE Customers Without Power Tuesday Afternoon

Downed wires along Hilton caused outages, which were restored Tuesday evening.

Update 8:20 p.m. Tuesday: Power has been restored to all but a handful of DTE Energy customers.

6 p.m. Tuesday: Around 1,000 Ferndale DTE customers were without power Tuesday afternoon after multiple power lines went down along Hilton between Eight Mile and Nine Mile roads.

"There look to be a few wires down," DTE spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said.

DTE crews were at the site of the downed wires and power is expected to be restored by this evening.

"We've got crews working on them now," he said. "We're hopeful to get folks back as quickly as possible."

A traffic light was out at Hilton and Nine Mile, causing police to close several blocks of Hilton. As of 4:20 p.m., DTE's power outage map showed several trouble spots:

  • one on the east side of Woodward running east of Hilton affecting 871 customers
  • another to the south of that are affecting 541 DTE customers in Ferndale and Detroit
  • one area to the east of the railroad tracks and south of Nine Mile affecting 27 customers in Ferndale

Ferndale Police and Fire departments could not be reached for comment on the situation.

The outages occurred following a brief bout of rain and strong winds in Ferndale during the afternoon.

DTE Energy said about 8,000 customers scattered throughout Metro Detroit were without power Tuesday night. The utility blamed high winds for downed power lines.
