Homeless Man Arrested in Theft from Garage in Ferndale

Ferndale Police arrested a 34-year-old homeless man around 3 a.m. Tuesday for allegedly stealing several items from a residential garage.

Early Tuesday morning, a homeowner on Wordsworth Street near West End Street called Ferndale Police reporting his garage door opening and closing, the garage light left on and some items missing, according to a news release from Ferndale Police Lt. Bill Wilson.

An officer found Jimmy Aldaoud, 34, walking about two blocks away and carrying a large bag. The officer stopped the man and found Aldaoud had three cordless drills in the bag that had been stolen from the garage on Wordsworth, according to Wilson.

Police said it appeared Aldaoud entered the unlocked vehicle of one of the residents and found the garage door opener, which he used to open the garage door.

He was arrested on a charge of burglary and the case was submitted to the Oakland County Prosecutor for a warrant. Aldaoud will likely be arraigned this afternoon, Wilson said.

According to police, Aldaoud is homeless and has an extensive criminal history dating to 1998 that includes theft, disorderly conduct and resisting police. Wilson said police are investigating whether Aldaoud may have also been involved in a recent rash of thefts from autos in the same neighborhood where he was arrested Tuesday.
