Ferndale Police Looking for Phone Scammer

Police say they are looking for a white man in his 30s, with a cut on his right eyebrow, who is reportedly targeting downtown stores with a phone scam.

Ferndale Police are looking for a phone scammer who was reportedly targeting downtown Ferndale businesses on Saturday morning.

Police said the suspect - described as a white male in his 30s who has a cut on his right eyebrow - has been targeting downtown stores to use their phone and tampering with phone lines.

According to a story at WXYD Channel 7, the man went in two businesses near Nine Mile and Woodward on Saturday and asked to use their phone to call a tow truck because his car had broken down.

He then call-forwards the business numbers to another line so that he can place overseas calls, which the business then gets charged for, Channel 7 reports. Read the full story here.

Anyone with information is asked to call Ferndale Police at 248-541-3650.
