Around 8 p.m. on Monday, officers investigated the breaking into a residential garage that occurred at about 10:30 a.m.

The resident was away from his home during the day, and when he returned his neighbor told him that people had been in his garage removing items. The neighbor said two men and a woman were in the garage at about 10:30 a.m., according to a police report.

When the neighbor asked them what they were doing, the woman knew the name one of the residents and said she had permission to remove tools to fix a flat tire, the report states. The neighbor was temporarily satisfied with the explanation and did not call the police, however when the three individuals kept removing more items from the garage, the man photographed and videotaped the activity. He also recorded the license plate of the pick-up truck the suspects drove, according to police.

"They gave him enough of a story to make him think they were legitimate but he still didn't know so he took the pictures," said Ferndale Police Lt. William Wilson.

When police arrived, they used the information to identify the individuals and then went to a Ferndale house where the truck registered to an 18-year-old resident. They arrested the man but the accomplices were not at the house, according to police.

Wilson said the female suspect had some type of connection to the victim.

Police said all three suspects have criminal records and warrants have been issued for their arrest for Breaking and Entering - a 10-year felony.

The 18-year-old man is suspected to be arraigned Wednesday, according to police.

Anyone with information should call Ferndale Police at 248-541-3650.
