Felony Drunken Driver With Gun Arrested in Ferndale

The 44-year-old man is charged with third-offense drunken driving and carrying a concealed weapon.

Ferndale Police arrested a 44-year-old man on Thursday for drunken driving and carrying a concealed weapon.

Around 4 a.m. Nov. 29, a Ferndale police officer noticed two vehicles racing at speeds near 100 miles per hour on E. Eight Mile Road. Officers were able to stop one of the racing vehicles - a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado - on Eight Mile near the east border of Ferndale, according to a report from Ferndale Police.

Police made contact with the driver of the vehicle - Dexter Fernando Williams - and returned to their patrol cars to run computer checks. As they did this, one of the officers noticed suspicious movement by Williams and watched him from outside of the car, police said.

Police found that Williams had a handgun and that he tried to hide it under the car seat, the report states. The man registered a .21 on a breathalyzer test, and he had two prior drunk driving convictions. His license was also suspended, police said.

Williams was arrested and arraigned in 43rd District Court on charges of third-offense drunken driving; carrying a concealed weapon; operating with a suspended license; and posession of a firearm under the influence, according to police. Bond was set at $15,000.
