Ferndale Home Invasion Suspect in Custody

The suspect in an attempted home invasion last week on Edgewood Place will be arraigned Tuesday, police said.

Police have arrested the suspect in a recent attempted home invasion on Edgewood Place, said Ferndale Police Chief Tim Collins.

Collins told council members at their regular meeting Monday night that the suspect will be arraigned on Tuesday.

"That individual has been apprehended by us and is in custody," Collins said.

The suspect had been shot at by the homeowner during the attempted home invasion, which took place on Friday.

The homeowner had discovered that his home was being attacked by an unknown person around 10:45 a.m. Friday and fired his handgun at the suspect, according to a press release from Ferndale Police Lt. Gary Whiting.

The suspect then fled to a waiting stolen Ford Ranger pickup truck. It was unknown at the time whether the suspect had been struck by the bullet, police said. Read the full story here.

On Sunday night, Ferndale Police dispatch received a call from a person who reported he saw the suspect's pick-up truck at a Marathon Gas Station in Redford and described the occupant of the truck, according to a press release from police.

Ferndale Police called Redford Police, who responded to the area and arrested the suspect. The suspect - a 32-year-old parole absconder - was then transferred to custody of the Ferndale Police Department, police said.

The case has been presented for review by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s office for a determination of charges.
