Ferndale Library Lists: Snakes, Soylent Green and Strange Martians
What I like about Griffin, he's got great taste in books and movies. Eclectic taste! Taste for the weird, taste for the provocative, taste for the post-apocalyptic... Griffin's our Page - part of a department of dedicated Library workers who keep our entire collection in order upon the set of shelves.
Take it away, Griffin

The search for the enigmatic Loch Ness Monster has gone on for years. This book covers all the expeditions to find the creature. From the first fuzzy photographs to high-tech radar sweeps of the Loch Ness, every scrap of “evidence” is presented in an impartial way. The author, although a skeptic himself, allows plenty of room for personal speculation as to the existence of Nessie. If you are interested in cryptozoology, I would highly recommend this book.

Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein
SF HEINLEIN
This is the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a man who was born on mars. He is taken to Earth, where he is kept under guard in a hospital until a nurse helps him escape. Then begins his true story. His journey from being nearly a child to becoming one of the Earth's most influential people is truly interesting and makes this a great read.
Soylent Green
DVD SCI-FI/FANTASY S
Set in a dystopian future where an overpopulated New York is run and fed by the Soylent Corporation, Soylent Green is a fascinating movie. Robert Thorn (played by Charlton Heston) investigates a murder that seems simple. At first. With each new development, Thorn is drawn deeper and deeper into the inner workings of the company that runs his city. This leads to the most startling and terrifying twist ending I have ever seen.
Super Graphic by Tim Leong
NEW GRAPHIC 741.5 L
This book is a scientific guide to all things comic book. A huge array of graphs shows statistics for everything from the age demographic of DC Comics readers to the intricate workings of Sin City. The author does not only confine his graphs to the comic page, but also includes informative charts about cosplay, Comic Con, and the state of his book shelf. Witty and informative, this is a terrific book.
The Encyclopedia of Snakes by Christopher Mattison
597.96 E
Snakes are, in my opinion, one of the most fascinating animals on the Earth. This book goes over every aspect of the lives of these creatures. Anatomy, behavior, and classification are but a few topics covered in this volume. Beautiful illustrations and photographs complete the Encyclopedia of Snakes. Anyone who is looking to find out more about these amazing reptiles should give this book a try.
