Motown Freedom Bakery owner Katie Kolbus of Farmington Hills has inspired me to cook a little healthier. Here are some natural and allergen-free substitutions and where to get them:

Kolbus said her baked goods are made in a licenced facility in Ann Arbor and free of gluten, soy, refined sugar, corn, potato and nuts so those ordering can rest assured that their holiday or special treats will be healthy and free from many allergens.
Items include lemon lavender cookies, "peanut butter" cookies (made with Sunbutter), quinoa raisin cookies, snickerdoodles, chocolate chip cookies, cupcakes of various flavors, muffins (blueberry and apple with optional streusel topping, carrot, banana, orange spice, chocolate mocha and more), cinnamon crumb coffee cake, seasonal fruit coffee cakes, breakfast bars, fruit and nut bars, quinoa and jam squares, scones, brownies, pumpkin bars, apple scone cake, maple cupcakes, sweet potato pie and more.
This holiday season, Kolbus urges customers to check out some special items, such as cutout sugar cookies, pumpkin cupcakes, cranberry upside-down muffins, pumpkin streusel muffins, thumbprint cookies, cranberry shortbread bars, ginger cookies/snaps, pumpkin bread, cranberry orange bread and pumpkin pie.
She said popular items are Apple Streusel Muffins, so she expects to get the same result with the pumpkin variety for the holidays.
"I am also able to accommodate, to the best of my abilities, special requests," Kolbus said.
