Bandit Workout 8/23

If you followed last week's bandit routine, you've probably gathered by now that I don't believe in doing things half hearted. You don't have to go out and beat yourself to death, just close. Comfort zones sucks, because they're easy. It's also why most people are so out of shape, easy = lazy when it comes to keeping yourself healthy. Part of the problem is the difficulty that many people, including myself, have getting themselves going and staying motivated. When I used to box, it was easy. If I didn't train the way I need to, I'd get reminded over and over again as I was getting pummeled. For most of those that I train, the easiest way to stay motivated is to pick a goal, an athletic goal. Doesn't matter if it's something you've done before or not. Probable better if it's not. Choose a 10k, and Adventure Race, a Mud Run, a Tri... anything. Pick it, SIGN UP for it and find someone that knows how to train you for it. You can even find sport specific programs online. Once you commit to training for that event, the training will take care of the numbers on the scale or whatever else it is that's got you training in the first place. Fitness is never really about the numbers as much as it's about making you have a belief and confidence in yourself. There's nothing better than completing something you never thought you'd be able to do. That being said, here's a great first time sport specific program to get a gauge of where you're at... If you don't know these moves, email me and I'll explain.

  • 100 Jumping Jack Squats
  • 100 Mountain Climbers
  • 100 Accordion Crunches
  • Run 1 mile
  • 50 Pushups
  • 50 Downups (not burpees)
  • 50 Squat Thrusts
  • Run 1 mile
Time it. The time is your score. If you're not up to it, or at least if you think you're not (I just had a 72 year old go through this exact routine who was new to exercise. Just too longer), feel free to scale everything back by 1/2. Go back and do this again every 4-6 weeks. If you're time isn't getting better, you're not pushing yourself with your training in between the tests.

Have at it, nothing beats hard work while it's beating the hell out of you!
