Open Mike Comedy: Black and Blue and Read All Over

If you're interested in comedy and want to learn more about local comedians and clubs stay tuned!

How is everyone doing?

Spectacular!

My name is Michael Soave and this is my blog. I’m a comedian. I stand up, I tell jokes and I drink, usually all at the same time. I’m what I like to call a multi-tasker or, what my parents prefer to call, a disappointment.

I live in Ferndale… I’m not bragging. I chose to live here because the people are so amazingly friendly, supportive and have such a strong sense of community. There’s so much going on in this tiny city and I wanted to be a part of it.

A little background information on me. Before I did comedy I was a street performer. I juggle, perform magic and yo-yo, usually in Ferndale and Royal Oak. Needless to say, I was a lonely child. I have a degree in culinary arts. That’s right, I paid real American dollars for a degree that says I learned how to flip a burger. I also hate sports but love horror movies and comics. Ladies, please! Calm yourselves, there’s enough of me to go around.

Ferndale helped mold me into the little sarcastic piece of crap that I am, and I couldn’t be prouder. With the recent closing of Club Bart’s, I was upset because that’s where I started and I didn’t want to see the stand-up scene leave Ferndale. But in the past week, two new open mics have started in the area. O’Mara’s in Berkley is hosting an open mic Wednesday nights at 10 p.m., with its host Harry Artin. And Ferndale’s own Go Comedy! will have their stand-up open mic Thursday nights at 10 p.m. starting July 14, taking over the Club Bart’s slot and it will be hosted by none other than Joel Fragomeni.

Since I’m a struggling comedian that was given the opportunity to write his own blog, I thought I would help out others like me. In the coming weeks I’ll be spotlighting comedy clubs, upcoming shows, local performers and comics. You can expect to see interviews, pictures and god willing, video.

Oh yeah, one more thing. So, uh, that's what I look like.

I know… I’m just as disappointed as you are. If you’d like to see what I look like with words coming out of my mouth come watch me perform July 14 at Go Comedy’s new open mic night.
