Whiz Kid: Avery Gaden
"I love to be involved in as much as I can be in and outside of school," Ferndale High School junior Avery Gaden said.

School: Ferndale High School, junior
Accomplishment: She is the Junior — and soon to be Senior — Drum Major of the champion Ferndale High School Golden Eagle Marching Band, first chair trombone in the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Bands, the Vice President of the FHS National Honor Society and the Secretary of the Student Enterprise Theater. Avery has travelled to the Netherlands, Denmark and Guatemala to international peace camps through CISV and will be traveling this summer to Belgium to be a junior counselor. She is currently the vice president and will be president of CISV Detroit's Junior Branch. She is active in the Zion Lutheran Church youth group and attended a national gathering in New Orleans in 2009.

Key to awesomeness: "I love to be involved in as much as I can be in and outside of school. Student leadership is an important part of my life in that it not only helps me to be a stronger and more responsible student, but it also really allows me to reach out to my peers and be a part of a lot of great teams. It's a lot to take on, but staying focused, confident and having fun with everything that I do has made it absolutly worth it."
