Ferndale LGBT Center to Participate in 100-Day Hunger Strike
Affirmations in Ferndale will join centers throughout the state to protest "Michigan's extreme anti-equality environment."
is one of eight LGBT community centers in Michigan that will join together to protest what they call Michigan’s "extreme anti-equality environment" by declaring a 100-day hunger strike exactly 100 days before the election.
The Community Centers Network, which consists of eight lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Michigan community centers, is organizing the demonstration, according to a press release from Affirmations.
Top leadership from each center will serve a 24-hour block of time, living on display in the front windows of Affirmations in Ferndale, which is Michigan’s largest LGBT community center.

Shifts run from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. and begin Monday, July 30.
David Garcia, executive director of Affirmations, told MLive.com in an article published Friday that he will be the first to participate in the hunger strike on Monday, going without food for 24 hours.
