Ferndale 'Green Week' Continues with Gardening Talk at Library

Green Thumb Garden Center will present "Starting Seedlings and Early Direct Seeding" at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ferndale Public Library.

Ferndale's continues today with "Garden Day."

is planning to present a discussion called "Starting Seedlings and Early Direct Seeding" from 7-9 p.m. at the .

Prizes and treats will be offered during the event, which is part of the weeklong "earth celebration" organized by the Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission along with support from the , the local business community and other area organizations.

Douglas Christie, chair of the Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission, said one of the prizes available will be a push lawnmower. Raffle tickets will be available for $1 each.

Though tonight's presentation and many of the other Green Week events are educational, Christie said the focus of the week is really about celebrating what the community does every day that is green.

"It's more about just energizing and thanking the community for everything that they do the other weeks of the year," he said.

Other activities during the week include a story time for children at the library on Wednesday featuring free ice cream from , a party on Friday at and a 25-mile bike ride on Saturday. See the .
