An Ode to the DIY Street Fair

Come one, come all, gather 'round both short and tall. Let me tell you the tale, listen only if you dare to the story of DIY Street Fair.

HAPPY DIY Street Fair To ALL!

Come one, come all, gather 'round both short and tall. Let me tell you the tale, listen only if you dare to the story of DIY Street Fair.

Here it has come, near Michigan’s thumb, to rock out 'til the pavement is made into mud.

Find out what's happening in Ferndalewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Here it has come, on Woodward and Nine, people who make goods so good it is worth waiting in line.

Here it has come, to Fabulous Ferndale, those who make clever treasures out what was once an ugly sweater.

The DIY Street Fair, fey creep on down the mile of Nine, on DIY eve, setting up tents, roadblocks, and outdoor electric lines.

DIY happens after Labor Day, bringing together makers from our city, its neighbors and others from very far away.

Those who come of sound, bringing their art, which cannot be seen but is very profound.

They bring their noise, organized by beats, to bring people together to release their poise and move their feet.

Different rhythms of waves brought together to suite any ear’s taste.

Speaking of taste we think of our mouths, and now we must consider those who bring food on which to chow down.

The Foodies bring their goods to be chewed, slurped, or drank.

Half a dozen flavor huts hold strong in a row to turn dreams to treats.

With spices from Louisiana, Mex-from your momma, dogs from the under, and food to suit your omnivorous hunger.

Surrounding the food is a new kind of garden, with less of a view and more of a brew.

A variety of ambers and hops bloom with taps on the top; Pick them as you like them and arrange the taste bouquet inside of you plastic DIY collectors cup for a all Michigan pride display.

The Makers will create things of great value out of things that would be thrown away.

And take great pride in their crafts, creations, and community; if you don’t take it home it’s a great gift just to see.

Bring with you some bags, for there is no need to waste when you’re taking home items that are handmade.

Three days for the good people to collect together no matter the weather.

Finding pleasure in eats, treasures along the streets, and sounds to get your body moving to the beat will leave you already wanting next year's DIY to come again.

So fabulous little boys and girls, get ready for this week DIY takes over our world.

The is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a pre-party at the Loving Touch on Thursday starting at 9:30 p.m. The DIYSF takes place on East Troy Street, between the Emory and the Woodward Avenue Brewers, as well as the parking lots behind the buildings.
