FUNdraising for ART in Downtown Ferndale

Discover the good time in Downtown Ferndale -- this week and into the future!

Volunteers at the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority never cease to amaze with their enthusiasm and creative thoughts about how to have fun and raise money.

Wheels & Wine

This Thursday, May 16 is no exception.  As part of the DDA’s Third Thursday program, the Promotions and Organization committees are making a night of it with Wheels & Wine, a FUNdraiser for art in Downtown Ferndale.  The event runs from 6-9 pm and includes a quick bicycle tour around town led by the crew at the Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop.  They’ll roll off at 6 pm.  At 6:30, the Wine Tasting, hosted mostly by Winezilla in partnership with the DDA, will be awaiting thirsty cyclists and, of course, wine fans who don’t ride.  While the bike ride is FREE, the wine tasting which includes pairings with appetizers from restaurants around  town,  is $20.  Tickets are available at the DDA office at 149 W. Nine Mile Road or at Winezilla.  Bike riders need only show up, helmets on and ready to ride.  Most of the action will happen in the parking lot BEHIND these businesses, abutting West Troy.  If you’re not sure where you’re going, look for the tent.

This is a great opportunity to not only enjoy a beautiful night downtown but to meet your neighbor in a partyish setting plus get an introduction to two Downtown business owners – Ed Bosse of Winezilla and Jon Hughes of the Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop.

If you don’t save Friday, June 21 for a special event, you’re going to wish you had.  ARTWN  -- the “original” fundraiser for public art in Downtown Ferndale, will once again be an event  and this year a new creative vibe will shape it into something totally new.  Remember all  those broken  old and expired parking meters?   Twenty (maybe 30) of them are in the hands of local artists, being re-imagined and re-purposed into something you’re likely to love – and want to own.  You’ll have a chance to do that on Friday, June 21 with a live auction, conducted by a local celebrity (can’t name names just yet!).  Besides that, there will be lots of silent auction items that are not only “art” but great goods from businesses around town.

Tickets are $20 and each ticket includes a chance to win one year of FREE parking in Downtown Ferndale.  Naturally, there will be something to nosh on, a cash bar, music AND you’ll have a chance to vote on which piece of the current ARTWN Sculpture Exhibit you would like to stay in Downtown Ferndale forever.   Don’t know which ones are your fave?  Find them posted on the ARTWN page at DowntownFerndale.com and at ARTWN on facebook.   The ARTWN Party will run from 6-9 pm at Elegance by Design at 231 W. Nine Mile Rd.  Buy your tickets there, at State of the Art Framing & Gallery at 918 W. Nine,  the DDA Office at 149 W. Nine or online at downtownferndale.com.
