Maloney closed down his shop a half hour after the power went out, at 6 p.m. Since then he has driven to US Ice on Eight Mile Road to pick up 100 pounds of 10 pound blocks of dry ice to cool his ice cream. He also wheeled his electrically powered ice cream cooler across Woodward to the fully powered , where he paid to charge his cart.

Though he has been able to keep his stock cold, not having power means Treat Dreams can't replenish its ice cream stock until the power goes back on. This is especially troubling to the store owner, as he might not be able to supply ice cream for Sunday's Christmas in July special, where customers who donate toys are rewarded with sundaes.

"I am really hopeful we can get it back tonight," he said Friday.

But just in case, he's making another trip to US Ice.
