What Happened in Ferndale in 2011

In case you missed it, we've rounded up the story of 2011, our favorite reports and those on which you commented the most.

Last week, we published several stories that looked back at 2011. And, from our favorites to the biggest talkers, we pulled them out and compiled them.

But you may have missed it, since it was the holidays and all. So, we're bringing them back for you today to check out, just in case.

First up is the story of the year. As you might have guessed, it was the power outages Ferndale experienced over the summer. There were big stories throughout the year but in the end, we went with the outage. There were seven between June and November. Some were small, as many as 300 without power, while others were as large as nearly the entire city. Read our recap and breakdown of the seven outages .

Then we pulled out our favorite stories from 2011. There were 17 of them. Everything from city chickens to taco-eating squirrels. There were also stories that didn't have to do with animals such as Jeff Rice finding Insane Clown Posse's Great Milenko hiding in his basement and our do-it-yourself project leading up to the DIY Street Fair. Check our 17 favorite stories from 2011  and see if they match up with yours.

Next up were the talkers. We went back and pulled one story from each month of 2011 that had the most comments. There were controversial issues, such as taxes, and there were debates about who was running for council and there were discussions on the safety of the school district. Check out the stories you commented most on during 2011 that made our list .

In a town like Ferndale where it seems like everyone is in a band of some type, we couldn't forget about local music. We had Ferndale Patch contributor Ryan Allen dive into 2011 and come up with . As a bonus, he looked into his crystal ball and pulled out .

Our sports reporter also did a year-end recap on the top athletes and games from 2011 from around the reader. Ferndale's  for 2011 athletes for his play on the football field the wrestling mat, while the Ferndale varsity baseball team's victory over  for top games in 2011.
