Spartan Stores Issues Voluntary Recall of Deli Products, Citing Listeria Concerns

The Michigan-based company supplies goods to a number of local stores, including one in Ferndale.

An extensive recall of goods was announced Thursday by Grand Rapids food distribution company Spartan Stores, which supplies pre-packaged foods to hundreds of supermarkets statewide.

According to a release on the Food and Drug Administration website, the recall was issued voluntarily.

The recall cites concerns of listeria contamination, although no reports of illness have been received. Additionally, Spartan Stores noted in a release that contamination had not been confirmed, and that the measure was "precautionary and is being initiated to ensure the highest degree of confidence to our customers."
