Update: Power Restored for DTE Customers in Ferndale

A wind storm left more than 3,000 DTE customers in the city without power Monday, with the majority of outages resolved overnight. All of the area outages were resolved by Tuesday evening.

Update 9 p.m.: All of the area outages in Ferndale have now been resolved, according to DTE's power outage map.

6:20 p.m.: The number of DTE customers in Ferndale without power was down to 104 by late afternoon Tuesday. According to DTE's power outage map, the remaining area outages should be resolved by 11 p.m. tonight.

9 a.m. Tuesday: Nearly 400 customers in Ferndale remained without power Tuesday morning, according to DTE Energy's power outage map.

High winds Monday left more than 3,000 customers in the city without power after the wind damaged eight circuits at the Hazel Park Substation. Power was restored for the majority of customers during the overnight hours.

DTE estimates the remaining outages will be resolved between 9 p.m. and midnight Tuesday.

Classes are cancelled today for Ferndale's Adult and Alternative Education program at the Crossroads Office Center in Southfield, because there is no power in the building, Ferndale Public Schools announced.

Weather and equipment failures have interrupted service for many Ferndale residents and businesses over the last year, with a dayslong power outage in July serving as a rallying point.

Many Ferndale residents are frustrated by recent frequent power outages, including Chrissy Gutierrez Mixen who wrote on Ferndale Patch's Facebook page: "I have lived in Ferndale for 33 years and with the exception of the blackout in 2003 we have lost power more times in the last 10 months than the previous 32 years combined!!"
