UPDATE: Crews Work to Restore Power to Thousands in Ferndale

Saturday night's storm causes widespread outages and flooding; more than 6,000 DTE customers in the dark.

A severe storm that swept through Ferndale on Saturday night left thousands without power and damage throughout many neighborhoods.

As of Sunday morning, DTE Energy reported 6,398 customers without power. The DTE Outage Map showed a variation in restoration dates among certain areas. Customers are expected to regain electricity between Sunday and Wednesday, the map shows.

The storm left downed trees and tree limbs in some neighborhoods, and there was flooding along the west side of Woodward and Allen Street in the aftermath. Residents also reported downed power lines.

DTE Energy spokesman Scott Simons said crews are out working to restore power but residents may not see results until Sunday.

"It's hard to say because the storm is still blowing through our service area," Simons said at about 10 p.m. Saturday. "We won't have any restoration estimates until Sunday morning."
