UPDATE: Power Restored to Most in Southwest Ferndale

Fire Department says the outage was due to a wind gust that pulled down power lines; DTE made repairs early this morning.

The started receiving calls at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday about down electrical lines and power outages in southwest Ferndale.

"A wind shear came through and pulled down some power lines," Ferndale Fire Chief Kevin Sullivan said Thursday morning. "It ended up taking out a chunk of the grid in both directions."

The affected area, according to the DTE outage map, was between Pinecrest and Gardendale to the west and east, and Eight Mile Road and Marshall to the south and north. The DTE site stated that 821 residents were affected.

"DTE got there right away and was working on it in the first few hours," Sullivan said.

Sullivan said the power was restored early this morning to most of the houses. The DTE power outage map is still reporting 26 houses without power in the area due to "trouble with transformer."
