The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in the area, which is in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. Southwest winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour were exepected with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

Shaun Slocum, parks and forestry supervisor with the Ferndale Department of Public Works, said most of the northeast part of the city is affected but he has been told by DTE that power should be restored within an hour or two. He said the fix is not expected to require running new wires.

"They anticipate that the power will be on in another hour or two," he said.

Joseph Gacioch, project manager with the city of Ferndale, said the outage was due to one of the main lines to the Hazel Park substation being impacted by the high winds. He said DTE has indicated that they have sent crews to the location to restore power and they anticipate that power will be restored this evening.

Gacioch said affected residents can visit DTE's Outage Center to view up-to-date images of outage locations.
