PHOTOS: Ferndale's 94th Annual Memorial Day Parade

The parade on Monday morning included tributes to those who gave their lives in service.

People of all ages lined Woodward, Nine Mile and Livernois on Monday morning to watch Ferndale's 94th annual Memorial Day Parade, followed by a ceremony honoring veterans at Ferndale's Memorial Mall.

Enjoying sunny weather in the 80s, participants in the parade included ’s Golden Eagles Marching Band, representatives from all the U.S. Armed Services and numerous local and regional groups. Ferndale's parade is the oldest consecutive Memorial Day Parade in Michigan.

The was also part of the parade, with dozens of marchers solemnly carrying placards of each Michigan soldier who has died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts since 2001.

Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter spoke during the ceremony following the parade and said he was moved by the Fallen Heroes foot float and seeing the photos of the 226 fallen soldiers it included.

"I was so moved to see that represented once again in the Fallen Soldiers group today, their names and pictures displayed in silence, which is appropriate because no words can really express our gratitude for what they've done for us," Coulter said.

Also during the ceremony, Ferndale Memorial Association trustee Helen Weber read off the names of 25 veterans who have passed away since Memorial Day 2011.
