Photo Gallery: Operation Valentine's Day

A Saturday night fundraiser at AJ's Cafe to support American troops overseas.

Hundreds of care packages, pillows, socks, gloves and Valentine's cars were donated Saturday night for at in Ferndale.

Co-organizer Rosalind "Roz" Cooperman said the gift drive and fundraiser exceeded everyone's expectations and she expects Operation Valentine's Day will become an annual event as long as a substantial number of U.S. troops remain in combat deployments overseas.

The venue was wall-to-wall with people as veterans, UAW members and supporters were entertained by the comedy of "Big Al" Muskavito and music by Clear Avenue and Butch Hollowell. Additionally, the UAW Region 1 Veterans Color Guard presented the American colors and recognized the many veterans in attendance.

The evening included food and sweets supplied by , , and . There was also a live Skype of a solider stationed in Afghanistan.
