Need to Know: Fido Does Ferndale is Today

Downtown Ferndale will go to the dogs on Thursday as one of the city's favorite events returns for another year offering an evening of dog-friendly entertainment, shopping and activities.

Fido Does Ferndale will be held on Thursday as part of the Ferndale Downtown Development Authority's Third Thursday initiative.

Here are the details:

  • What: Fido Does Ferndale
  • When: 5-9 p.m. Thursday
  • Where: Downtown Ferndale, with event headquarters at Schiffer Park at the corner of Planavon and West Nine Mile Road.
  • Cost: Free admission.
  • What else: Planavon between West Nine and Withington will be closed to through traffic for the event, with the closure starting at 3 p.m.

Schedule:

  • 5 p.m.: Event begins; Live music by Ryan Dillaha.
  • 5:30 p.m.: Opening remarks.
  • 6 p.m.: Pooch Parade (gathering at 5:45 p.m.)
  • 6:30 p.m.: Contests

This year's event will include:

  • Entertainment, dog-friendly shopping and vendors featuring dog-specific information and product.
  • Check out the Pooch Parade, dog contests (with prizes) and plenty of photo opportunities.
  • The Canine Treasure Hunt will encourage dogs and their owners to visit participating merchants to receive free dog treats.
  • On stage at Schiffer Park, songster Ryan Dillaha will provide musical entertainment, while emcee duties are handled by Jerome Raska of Blumz by JRDesigns.
  • Fido Does Ferndale is supported by Canine-to-Five, Pet Supplies Plus, Bubble & Bark, Play and Stay Pet Care, Camp Bow Wow and Essential Massage Therapy.
  • Vendors include Motor City Greyhound Rescue, Petcare AuPair, Tail-abrations, Michigan Veterinary Specialists, Fido Personal Dog Training, Longview Boarding and Grooming and Bingo Pet Salon.
