Moms Talk: Are All of the Harry Potter Books Kid Friendly?

This weekly column focuses on discussion. We'll have one topic or question, and we'll talk.

I'm not going to explain Harry Potter. If you don't know, then you don't know.

But for those who do know about Mr. Potter and his gang of wizards and witches, here's a question I'm curious about: As the books progress, they become less of a kids book, covering topics of death, love, coming of age, etc. And this, of course, makes sense since Harry is getting older.

So, with that said: Have you had to say no to, say, book six because it's too dark? If your 5- or 6-year-old is reading, or if you are reading to them, do you decide not to read the later books because they may be too dark, too scary or maybe even too, dare I say, adult?
