Letter Carriers to Collect Food From Mailboxes Saturday

"Stamp out" hunger with food in the mail boxes.

This Saturday, more than 1,500 branches of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) from every state, involving more than 10,000 cities and towns, will have more than 230,000 letter carriers collect non-perishable goods from people’s mailboxes. Last year, the food drive totaled a record 77.1 million pounds of non-perishable goods.

The goal is to "Stamp Out" Hunger: to help restock community food banks, pantries and shelters for needy families throughout the summer, and to build upon the 1 billion pounds of non-perishable food collected since 1992 from millions of generous postal customers.

Local NPOs such as Gleaners Community Food Bank, Forgotten Harvest, and Food Gatherers are working to break the record this year, but it's as easy as putting your non-perishable items in the mailbox instead of the back of the pantry.
