When people ask “What’s going in Downtown Ferndale” the hardest part of the answer is knowing where to begin.  With more than 350 businesses, actively and aggressively serving and pursuing their respective clientele, the synergy in the 3.9 linear miles that is Downtown Ferndale is enviable, if not downright phenomenal.

Consider Halloween.

In Downtown Ferndale, it starts in a big way tonight Wednesday, October 24 at Rosie O’Grady’s with Sharing 4 Caring.  Staff and friends put their energy into creating magical, mystical, sometimes downright creepy larger-than-life scarecrows. Patrons vote (with money)  for their favorites, with all the proceeds going to the charity that sponsored that particular crow.  Rosie’s tops it off with a party and parade fit for costumed kids AND their parents, music, crafts and more.   Oh, and for sure the TVs will be tuned to the opening game of the World Series!

Rosie’s Scaring for Sharing is Event 1 in whole lot of  Halloween going on downtown.

On Saturday October 27 from 4 – 7 pm, all the good children of Ferndale (and neighbors) will be welcomed downtown for three hours of door-to-door candy snaggin!

Participating Downtown Ferndale merchants will be passing out treats to disguised children and their parents – just for the fun of it!  Merchants LOVE this event because it is such a simple and entertaining way to really be a part of the community. ..and who doesn’t love a kid in a costume?  Trick or treaters need only look for the posted sign to know they’ll get something sweet inside!

Same night,  different location – head on over to the Rust Belt Market.  Chris & Tiffany Best have once again cooked up a Halloween extravaganza  that is sure to bring out all the best ghouls.  Halloween at The Belt includes a costume contest for humans and pets (any age for either), a pumpkin carving contest and haunting musical entertainment from Smudge Candy.   No cost, all good, if you’re going anywhere, go there!

Adults who are all costumed up can get into the competitive spirit at Boogie Fever where WOMC radio is presenting Rockin’ Hallo-Scream.  No cover, cash prizes and your host for the evening will be the station’s Dave Fuller.  Things start to get steamy and screamy there at 8 pm.

For sure, the best costume of the night will be a Detroit Tiger fan ensemble, whatever it looks like!   With more than 300 flat screens tuned in and broadcasting around town, what better destination than Downtown Ferndale to cheer on the best team in baseball.  Happy Halloween! Go Tigs!
