Why go:  The Royal Oak High School Drama Club will acquaint your kids with the four March sisters and their mother in New England during the Civil War. The play is based on the book by Louisa May Alcott.

When:  7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday

Inflatable Playscapes

Why go: In every weather, inflatables are a good way to let off steam. Take your kids, ages 2-12, to the open hours to get some indoor bouncing exercise in the giant room with six huge inflatables. You can give a party in the party room or rent inflatables and extras like build a bear to bring the party to you.

When:  Weekly, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 5-7 p.m. Thursdays. Call if coming and to check on hours.

Arts & Scraps

Why go: It’s a shopper’s paradise, especially if you like doing projects with your kids or grandkids. Fill a grocery bag, choosing from more than 300 recycled industrial scraps. Or come to make things and learn in six different stations.

Where: 16135 Harper Avenue, Detroit

When: Open hours: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. Also group field trips, birthday parties and ScrapMobile that will come to your festival.

Cost: Free admission for shopping, $7/bag. $3/person admission if making things at stations or get a Museum Adventure Pass from your library for 4 to make things for free.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Why go:  The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia retells Eric Carle’s books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and the Mixed-Up Chameleon on stage in black light.

When: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday
