Ferndale's Third Annual Green Week is in Full Effect

Green week started Saturday and goes through Friday, the 41st Earth Day.

Ferndale celebrates spring, and all things green, this week with the , featuring daily events designed to amuse, educate and promote environment-friendly living.

Event organizer and Ferndale Environmental Sustainability Commission Chairman Douglas Christie said Green Week was an idea the organization presented to the (DDA) three years ago to highlight the city's past and future commitments of being a leader in protecting the environment.

“Our goal was to raise awareness and empower businesses and residents to make the community even more sustainable for all who live, work and play in Ferndale,” he said.

The community has fully embraced Green Week, he said, and as a whole, there is “a strong movement” within the community to practice a more sustainable lifestyle, making the event and its efforts even more successful.

Cristina Sheppard-Decius, executive director of the DDA , said the organization supports Green Week and its events because it coincides with its goals of being a leader in sustainability practices.
