Ferndale resident Adrienne M. Gilmore has been selected to fill an open seat on the Ferndale Library Board of Trustees.
Gilmore - who will serve until the general election in November 2013 - fills a seat vacated by Jim O’Donnell, who resigned in December to serve on the Ferndale school board.
Gilmore was selected for the position at the library board's Feb. 21 regular monthly meeting.
Gilmore is a 14-year resident of Ferndale and a professional educator in the Birmingham Public School system. She was sworn in by the city clerk on Wednesday and will officially join the board at its March 21 monthly meeting.
"On behalf of the entire board, I welcome Ms. Gilmore as an appointed trustee," Board President Pat Dengate said in a press release. "We are looking forward to working with her and benefiting from her experience as an educator and advocate of literacy. Her skills as a collaborator in her professional life will help keep the Ferndale Public Library the vital and relevant member of the larger community it always strives to be.”
Gilmore said in the release that she is "thrilled" to be appointed to the board.
"The Ferndale library strengthens our community as it is a thriving hub of culture, diversity and entertainment," she said. "I look forward to contributing to the work of the library as we continue to enrich our fabulous city."
