Ferndale Library Announces New Director

The Ferndale Public Library Board of Trustees announced on Friday the appointment of Jessica Keyser as Library Director.

Keyser, who currently serves as director at the Hazel Park Memorial Library, will start the position in Ferndale on Nov. 19.

A Ferndale resident, Keyser has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Wayne State University.

"Jessica impressed the library board with her many accomplishments at Hazel Park, her management approach, and her commitment to the library’s place in our community," Library Board President Jim O’Donnell stated in a press release. "We look forward to her leadership of our library."

Keyser said in the press release that she has lived in Ferndale for almost 10 years and has seen the library "grow and change dramatically."

"The Ferndale library is known throughout the area for its unique programming and distinct character. The city has so much momentum right now, and the library is really a destination in the heart of our thriving downtown," she said. "I hope to foster the library's continued growth and will work to achieve the goals that the community has set for the library in the strategic plan. I am thrilled to be the new Library Director, and excited to see what the future holds for Ferndale!"

The search for a new library director began in late August after it was announced that former Ferndale library director Kate Pohjola was no longer in the position as of Aug. 23.

O'Donnell said at the time that due to employee privacy reasons, he could not say whether Pohjola resigned or was let go.
