Ferndale Holiday Festival, Mac and Cheese Contest and More This Week

Get ready for the week ahead in Ferndale with these five things to know.

1. Holiday Ice and Winterfest Market

Ferndale's annual Holiday Ice and Winterfest Market will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in downtown Ferndale. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with ferris wheel rides, live entertainment and the Woodward Avenue tree lighting at 7 p.m. Find more information here.

2. Mac and cheese contest on Wednesday

Tickets are available for the 2nd Annual Motown Macdown for Justin's Vision: a macaroni and cheese throwdown featuring some of Detroit's finest chefs. The event will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5 at One-Eyed Betty's in Ferndale. More information at http://macdown.eventbrite.com.

3. Legislative forum in Ferndale

Oakland Schools Superintendent Dr. Vickie Markavitch will present information about current legislation being deliberated in the State House and Senate that have the potential to significantly alter the public education system in Michigan. 4. Farewell concert by local band

Local hard-rockers 60 Second Crush will play a farewell concert on Friday, Dec. 7 at the Magic Bag in Ferndale. The band has been around for 15 years, producing three full-length albums and earning two Detroit Music Awards and other recognition. Get more information on the upcoming show here.

5. Tour historic Ferndale homes, buildings

A tour of historic Ferndale homes and buildings, decked out in their holiday finest decorations, is set for Saturday, Dec. 8 from 3-7 p.m. starting at the Ferndale Historical Museum. The event is a joint effort by the Ferndale Community Foundation and the Ferndale Historical Society. Find more information here.

Regarding the Holiday Ice and Winterfest Market, the Friends of the Ferndale Library is hosting a warm-up station at the library. Hot cocoa and books will be available for sale! It runs from 11AM to 5PM on December 8th. Please come on by!
