Ferndale Denied Request for Emergency Funds for Storm Cleanup
After high winds wreaked havoc in September, the city will not receive state's help with costs.
Ferndale has been denied its request for state emergency funds to assist in the cleanup from a .
Winds of up 70 mph storm flew through the area Sept. 3, knocking down trees and electrical lines, causing severe damage and . City officials estimated storm damage of around $100,000. The incident and ask the state to help offset some of the cost. If approved, the city could have received up to $30,000.
“We were told that there were no lingering threats to health and safety,” Ferndale City Manager April McGrath said.

Coulter worries about the effect on the city's resources. "I'm disappointed that we didn't qualify because now we'll have to absorb those costs from our already tight budget," the mayor said.
Nearby communities including Pleasant Ridge, Hazel Park and Madison Heights have also been denied the state emergency funds. All applied through the Oakland County Homeland Security Division, which assists in the area of natural and other disasters.
