Ferndale Community Invited to Prayer Service for Shooting Victims

The service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church as an opportunity for residents to pray for victims, families and the community of Newtown, Conn.

The Ferndale community is invited to a prayer service on Saturday night in response to the tragic school shootings in Newtown, Conn.

Details are still emerging about the incident, which took the lives of 26 people, including 20 children, at an elementary school on Friday. Find full coverage at Newtown Patch.

Gigi VanderWeele, of Pleasant Ridge, said a coalition of religious leaders in Ferndale has appointed Pastor Scott Miller of Drayton to be a point person on community support regarding this tragedy.

Miller is available to speak to families struggling to communicate this with their children. He is also available to connect families with other religious leaders in the Ferndale community.

"In Ferndale we are truly one spiritual family," VanderWeele said.
